Child Dedications

At Grace City Church, we believe children are a gift from God—and as parents, we have the incredible privilege and responsibility to raise them to know and love Jesus.
What is Child Dedication?
Child Dedication is a public commitment you make before God, your family, and our church community. It’s a way of saying:

"God, we recognize this child is a gift from You, and we commit to raising them in a way that points them to You."

In dedicating your child, you are:

  • Thanking God for the gift of your child.
  • Committing to raise them in the ways of Jesus.
  • Asking God for wisdom, grace, and strength to be godly parents.
  • Inviting your church family to pray for and support you in this journey.

Child Dedication Is NOT:
  • Salvation for your child: We believe that each person makes their own decision to follow Jesus when they are old enough to understand what that means (Romans 10:9-10).
  • Baptism for your child: At Grace City, we believe that baptism is a personal decision to follow Jesus and happens when someone is old enough to choose to follow Him (see our Baptism Guide for more on this).
Why Do We Dedicate Children?
Child dedication is a special moment where parents commit to raising their child to know and follow God. It’s rooted in Scripture and modeled throughout the Bible.

We dedicate children because:

Children are a gift from God: “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3 (NLT)
  • We dedicate our children to thank God for the gift they are and to acknowledge they ultimately belong to Him.

Jesus welcomed and blessed children: “Let the little children come to me… for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:14 (NIV)
  • We follow Jesus’ example by inviting His blessing over our children and welcoming them into His presence.

Jesus was dedicated: “When the time came… they took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.” Luke 2:22 (NIV)
  • We follow the example of Mary and Joseph, dedicating our children as they did with Jesus.

Parents are called to lead their children spiritually: “Train up a child in the way he should go…” Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)
  • We dedicate our children to commit ourselves to raising them in the ways of God, with love, prayer, and intentionality.
What You Are Committing to as a Parent
When you dedicate your child at Grace City, you are committing to:
  • Love God with all your heart, soul, and strength: We can’t lead our kids to Jesus if we’re not following Him ourselves.
  • Lead by example: Showing your child what it looks like to love Jesus in everyday life—at home, in marriage, in how you speak, act, and serve.
  • Teach your child about Jesus: Sharing God’s Word, praying together, and talking about how to live for Jesus.
  • Being part of a church family: We believe that following Jesus is not meant to be done alone. Grace City wants to partner with you as you raise your child to know God’s love.
